Celebration under the charming tipi

Spontaneous and fun-loving are the two words that perfectly describe Cheryl and Kurt. From the moment I met them, their vibrant energy and zest for life were palpable. Their wedding day was a true reflection of their joyful and adventurous spirits.

Outdoor ceremony

I will always remember the day when Kurt called me, asking if I was available to film his wedding in the breathtakingly beautiful town of Thurso, located in the far north of Scotland. As someone who loves to travel, this opportunity felt like a dream come true. The more I learned about Kurt and Cheryl’s plans for their wedding day, the more my excitement grew.

They had chosen the stunning House of the Northern Gate in Dunnet as their wedding venue. Surrounded by magnificent views of cliffs and nature, they envisioned an outdoor wedding ceremony with the breathtaking landscape as their backdrop. To add a touch of uniqueness and charm, they also planned to have their reception under a beautiful tipi, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

As a sociable and family-oriented couple, Kurt & Cheryl had a dream of organizing a mini two-day wedding celebration. They wanted to spend the day before their wedding with their loved ones, hosting a joyful family barbecue. They understood the importance of bringing everyone together in one place, as life often keeps us apart. That’s why it was even more important to have some of the moments of family re-union captured on their film.

Arriving a day before the wedding, my second shooter and I checked into our hotel and immediately headed to the House of the Northern Gate to meet Kurt and Cheryl in person. As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed into their midst. Kurt and Cheryl radiated positivity and warmth, making us feel like a part of their close-knit group. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, lively conversations, and genuine camaraderie as the closest family members gathered, chatting and mingling by the barbecue, cherishing this special time together.

After capturing the essence of this heartwarming pre-wedding gathering for about three hours, we decided to give Kurt and Cheryl some privacy and space to enjoy the remainder of the evening. We left with a sense of anticipation and excitement, knowing that their big day was just around the corner.

On their wedding day, the rugged north of Scotland greeted us with a strong and persistent wind. However, this didn’t deter Cheryl and Kurt from proceeding with their planned outdoor wedding ceremony. As a highly organized wedding videographer, I was well aware that a wedding ceremony in such a remote location would require me to be prepared for anything that nature threw our way. Therefore, I had packed all of my equipment, ready to capture every precious moment regardless of the weather conditions. Looking back, all the effort and preparation were undoubtedly worth it, as the day unfolded into a truly unforgettable experience.
The wind added an element of wild beauty to the surroundings, enhancing the atmosphere and creating a sense of untamed romance. Cheryl and Kurt, displaying their unwavering determination, exchanged their vows with the majestic cliffs and breathtaking scenery as their backdrop.

Despite the wind’s powerful presence during their wedding ceremony, the warmth and love emanating from Cheryl and Kurt, as well as their guests, created an atmosphere of genuine joy and celebration. The resilience and spirit of the couple, combined with the breathtaking surroundings, made for a truly magical experience. It was a testament to their love and commitment, as well as their willingness to embrace the unpredictability of nature on their special day.

Embracing the spontaneity of the moment, Cheryl and Kurt hopped onto the back of a vintage car, with the wind tousling their hair and their laughter echoing in the air. They embarked on a joyous and carefree drive along the coastal road, their spirits lifted by the sheer exhilaration of the experience. As they sped along, the drone captured their infectious smiles, their hands intertwined, and the sense of freedom and adventure that radiated from them.

As the wind continued to dance through the landscape, we seized the opportunity to capture some truly stunning shots on the beach. The untamed beauty of the coastline served as a dramatic backdrop for Cheryl and Kurt’s love story. The crashing waves, the rugged cliffs, and the endless expanse of the sea added an element of rawness and majesty to the footage.
After the exhilarating time on the beach, we all made our way back to the House of the Northern Gate to continue the evening celebration under the charming tipi.

The highlight of the evening was Kurt’s heartfelt speech, which left not a dry eye in the crowd. As a wedding videographer, capturing these emotional moments is what I live for. The love and sincerity in Kurt’s words were palpable, and it was an honour to document such a deeply personal and touching moment.

The festivities continued with lively dances and countless moments of laughter and merriment. The dance floor was alive with energy as guests let loose, twirling and spinning with pure abandon. The infectious joy emanating from Cheryl and Kurt was contagious, and it inspired everyone to join in the celebration with unbridled enthusiasm.

As the night sky transformed into a breathtaking tapestry of shimmering stars, all the guests gathered outside the tipi, forming a circle around Cheryl and Kurt. The air was filled with anticipation and a sense of enchantment as everyone awaited the commencement of a sparkling display. It was a magical sight, and I made sure to capture every sparkling moment on film.

Although the party seemed endless, my second shooter and I reluctantly began the process of packing up our equipment. As much as we wanted to stay and celebrate with Kurt and Cheryl, the responsibilities of parenthood beckoned us back home. However, the warmth and hospitality extended to us by the couple and their loved ones made us feel truly welcomed and appreciated.

As we bid our farewells and made our way back to Glasgow, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible day we had experienced. Cheryl and Kurt’s wedding was a true testament to their love, their spirit of adventure, and their ability to create unforgettable moments of joy.
