As you go through your wedding checklist, you’ll probably come to a standstill when choosing a Scottish wedding band. This decision can turn a beautiful day in a Scottish venue into an unforgettable celebration.

With the stunning bride holding a bouquet of heather and twinkling fairy lights illuminating the venue, the right band can truly make this sweet moment memorable. And luckily, in Scotland, there are many great bands to choose from.

Here are my top 5 recommendations from personal experience:

1. Jacobites

Since their formation in 2016, Jacobites have become a standby in the Scottish music scene. With an extensive repertoire that includes both traditional Scottish tunes and popular Ceilidh dance favourites, they’ve captivated audiences at countless weddings, festivals, concerts, and events all across Scotland, the UK and Europe.

They play Ceilidh’s favourites like:

  • Gay Gordons
  • Dashing White Sergeant
  • Canadian Barn Dance
  • Riverside Jig

And Scottish traditions like:

  • Bonnie lass o Fyvee
  • Bonny Dundee
  • Welcome Royal Charlie
  • Sound the pibroch
  • Mcphersons Rant

2. Live wires

LIVE WIRES is a perfect match if you fancy a vibrant Scottish band that’s not necessarily a ceilidh band. With over ten years of experience, Live Wires has been livening up UK events with their dynamic performances.

This band comes with great recommendations, gathering over 160 positive online reviews from clients – including well-known corporations like Pepsi Co, Argos, and Santander.

What sets Live Wires’ apart? Well, their song list is both classic and current, covering genres and hits from various eras. From the intense beats of the 50/60s, the disco feel of the 70s/80s, to the popular tunes of the 2000s and 2010s, they’ve got it all.

Here’s a little teaser into their extensive song list:

  • “Saw Her Standing There” – The Beatles
  • “Twist and Shout” – The Beatles
  • “Africa” – Toto
  • “You Can Call Me Al” – Paul Simon
  • “Mr Brightside” – The Killers
  • “Greatest Day” – Take That
  • “Blinding Lights” – The Weeknd
  • “Seventeen Going Under” – Sam Fender

3. splendid gentlemen

Over the years, Splendid Gentlemen has managed to solidify its reputation as one of Scotland’s most prestigious wedding bands. Their distinct style and talent have earned them numerous accolades, with the highlight of their career happening in 2016. This year, they were bestowed the title of ‘Best Evening Entertainer’.

To better understand the unique sound that Splendid Gentlemen offers, fans and clients can explore their performances on YouTube, where several of their live shows are available for viewing. This gives you a taste of the infectious energy and musical mastery you can expect on your big day when you choose to engage the services of this legendary band.

4. the rox

My next highlight is the Glasgow-based trio, The Rox, recognised for their vibrant live performances at weddings and corporate events. Frontman John McIntyre leads the Rox and has impressive experience, appearing at significant events and even touring abroad. Their keen energy and engaging music cater to diverse audiences, making them a top choice for your wedding.

The set list includes but is not limited to:

  • 10/10 – Paolo Nutini
  • 20th century boy – T-Rex
  • A little respect – Erasure
  • About Damn Time – Lizzo
  • Ain’t Got No Money – Frankie Miller
  • Ain’t no stopping us now – McFadden & Whitehead
  • Ain’t no sunshine – Bill Withers

5. whiskey kiss

Lastly is Whiskey Kiss. Whiskey Kiss is a famous Scottish ceilidh band made up of incredibly gifted performers, all of whom contribute to the band’s unique sound.

Here’s a quick look at the band members:

  • Murray Fergusson: A skilled violinist who has studied at the renowned Prague Royal Conservatoire.
  • Iain Macphail: A multifaceted musician who plays both the bass and accordion.
  • Larry Deveney: An experienced drummer who sets the rhythm for the band.
  • Ali Levack, David Shedden, and Ciaren Ross: Form an accomplished trio who create eerie melodies with bagpipes and whistles.

Overall, these musicians make up the core of Whiskey Kiss, a band that constantly impresses audiences across Scotland and beyond with their memorable performances.
